Our nursery in Clapham Junction, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted
The report rated all areas as ‘good’, including the equality of education, behaviour, personal development and leadership and management. Inspectors praised the nursery environment, noting that “staff are kind, caring and provide emotional support for younger children when they need it”. They also highlighted children’s good manners and positive interactions with older children often helping their friends with tasks, stating that “children build positive relationships as they play and are thoughtful and considerate of each other”.
Early literacy is a particular strength at our Clapham Junction nursery. The report mentions that “there is a key focus on developing these skills in preparation for the next stage of learning and the transition to school”. This is part of our curriculum approach that supports children’s development in a well-rounded way, helping them become confident as they learn.
As part of this, “staff challenge children as they learn and encourage them to think for themselves”. Self-help skills are also developing well, with children feeding themselves, cleaning the table after snack time and putting on their coats independently, as a few examples.
The report also reflects the strong relationship built with families. Parents “receive ‘amazing support’ and home visits with their children’s key worker and the nursery’s family support manager helps children transition into the nursery smoothly”.
Providing high-quality childcare in South London
Ark Start Headteacher Molly Devlin said: “We couldn’t be happier with Ofsted’s report and are pleased for our colleagues at Ark John Archer who we work closely with.
“We opened in 2020 against a pandemic backdrop that has seen many families face challenges. We ensured that our nurseries remained a hub where our youngest learners had a safe place to play and develop. Our work ensures we prepare children to start primary school happily and confidently. We work with families by supporting parenting programmes, working with local initiatives, and hosting sessions for families to get together. This whole community approach is something we’re extremely proud of.”
