Experiences

From daily adventures outdoors to big milestone moments, every experience at Ark Start gives children something new to learn with friends and on their own.

Staff here have a love of children and enjoy their rewarding job! My child is sad when he cannot go to nursery! Comes out smiling telling me all about his day!

Outdoor learning every day

We ensure children spend at least three hours of their day being physically active and learn outside as much as possible, whatever the weather.

One step at a time

Time in our garden areas helps children build physical skills at their own pace. Starting with achievable activities encourages children to take bolder steps as they grow in confidence, and it’s a chance for children who love being outdoors to truly thrive.

A new adventure

From climbing frames to mud kitchens, outdoor time brings the experiences children explore indoors to life on a bigger scale. Every corner is a new opportunity for imaginative play, with sand pits, water play, playhouses, large-scale painting and activities linked to the books they’re reading.

Celebrating what makes us special

At Ark Start, celebrating diversity is part of how we build an inclusive community for every child and family. Each term brings its own calendar of cultural and seasonal events that bring us all together.

Autumn

International night, Diwali, Anti-bullying week, Nursery at night, Hannukah, Christmas, Winter Jumper Day.

Spring

Chinese New Year, Time to Talk Day, Safer Internet Day, Pancake Day, World Book Day, Mother’s Day Tea, Eid.

Summer

Mental Health Awareness Month, Father’s Day Breakfast, Windrush, Sports Day, Graduation Ceremonies.

Frequently asked questions

How much time will my child spend outside?

Every child will spend time outdoors every day. We aim to ensure that, in line with NHS guidance, our children our physically active for at least three hours a day. We also know that outdoor learning provides opportunities for our children that the indoor environment cannot match so we make sure we are outside every day, whatever the weather.

How many trips take place a year?

We make sure we go offsite at least once every half term. Details of upcoming trips are shared with families each term.

How do you keep the children safe on trips?

All children wear hi-vis jackets when on trips and we always ensure we have a ratio of 1:3 so we ask parents to join us if they can. A risk assessment is completed by the nursery manager, signed off by the headteacher and shared with all staff before the trip. A trained first aider will always accompany an offsite trip.
