A day at nursery

We carefully plan every day so children have the time and support to play, explore and learn, making every moment count.

Under 2s

Breakfast & exploration time

8.00-9.00 AM

During breakfast, we sit together at our tables with the other children to eat. Once we’ve finished, we explore the activities we’ve set out for them.

Welcome to nursery

9.00-9.15 AM

Each child’s play partner meets them at the door and takes them to the younger years room to put away their things and help them settle into their day. Once everyone’s things are away, we sing a hello song together.

Outdoor play

9.15-10.00 AM

Children freely explore our garden area, with adults playing alongside them. They might walk around the space collecting natural resources, create different sounds with our pots, pans and metal spoons or enjoy exploring in the mud kitchen.

Morning snack time

10.00-10.15 AM

We sit together at our tables to eat a snack. Children are encouraged to self-select from a range of fruit and vegetables, which we serve alongside a carbohydrate-based snack.

Group time

10:15-10:30 AM

We sit together on our cosy carpets to sing songs, read stories and explore resources. Younger children love playing ‘What’s in the bag’ with items linked to nursery rhymes, like a spider for Incey Wincey Spider.

Intimate care & play

10:30-11:15 AM

During this time, each child has their nappy changed individually by a member of staff, while the rest of the group continue their messy and sensory play with an adult. We explore different textured materials and play with sand and water with our hands and toys.

Preparing for lunchtime

11:15-11:30 AM

With the support of adults, children will wash their hands and sit down for lunch.

Lunchtime

11:30 AM-12:00 PM

During lunchtime, we sit together at our table to eat. Adults carefully supervise children while they eat, model talking about the food and its texture and encourage children to express when they are finished or if they would like more.

Sleep time & intimate care

12:00-2:00 PM

It’s time for some rest. Each child’s picture is placed next to their coracle bed. We play calming background music to encourage children to sleep. Nappies are checked before and after sleeping and changed individually.

Intimate care & exploration time

2:00-2:30 PM

When children wake up, they have their nappy changed individually by an adult. Once we’ve finished, we explore the activities we’ve set out for them. Children choose resources from the playrooms and play with their friends and adults who facilitate their exploration.

Afternoon snack time

2:30-2:45 PM

We sit together at our tables to eat a snack. Children are encouraged to choose from a variety of healthy snacks, including fruit, vegetables and a carbohydrate option.

Afternoon story time

2:45 – 2:55 PM

We sit together on our cosy carpets to explore our books and share stories together.

Home time (School Day)

2:55-3:10 PM

It’s time to say goodbye to our friends leaving after the School Day. Adults help each child to gather their belongings and get ready for home, and we all sing our goodbye song together to end the day.

Outdoor play

3:10-3:45 PM

Children freely explore our garden area, with adults playing alongside them. They might enjoy pushing and pulling toys, splashing in the water tray, playing with sand or discovering new textures.

Preparing for teatime

3:45-4:00 PM

With the support of adults, children wash their hands and get settled, ready for tea.

Teatime

4:00-4:30 PM

During teatime, we gather at our table to enjoy our meal together. Children enjoy each other’s company, while adults carefully supervise them while they eat.

Intimate care & exploration time

4:30-4:50 PM

Each child has their nappy changed individually by an adult. Once we’ve finished, we explore the activities we’ve set out for them. Children choose resources from the playrooms and play with their friends and adults who facilitate their exploration.

Home time (Full Day)

4:50-5:00 PM

It’s home time for everyone. Adults support each child to gather their things ready for home and we sing our goodbye song together to end the day.
