Keeping your child safe

At Ark Start, the safety, wellbeing and happiness of every child are at the heart of everything we do.
We understand that choosing a nursery is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make as a parent, and we want you to feel completely confident in ours.

Our commitment to safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and our teams play a vital role to maintain the highest standards of care and vigilance. We have robust safeguarding measures in place across all our nurseries, creating a secure, nurturing environment where children can learn, play and thrive with confidence.

Safe recruitment and training

Every member of our team goes through enhanced DBS checks, full reference checks and a thorough induction before they start working with children. From there, our team takes part in regular safeguarding training, ongoing supervision and professional development, so children are always cared for by skilled, attentive professionals.

Qualified staff and right ratios

Children are cared for by experienced staff who understand what it takes to build a nurturing environment. We meet the qualified staff requirements set out in the EYFS framework and keep appropriate staff-to-child ratios throughout the day, ensuring every child receives the attention, support and supervision they need to thrive.

Nurseries designed with safety in mind

Our nurseries have secure entry and exit systems, so only authorised adults can access our settings. Careful sign-in and collection procedures mean we always know who’s on site and who’s picking up your child.

Furniture, equipment and environments are appropriate for children’s ages and stages of development, and we carry out routine safety checks to maintain a secure learning environment.

Working together with you

We believe that strong relationships with parents and carers are an important part of keeping children safe. We encourage open communication and are always happy to answer questions or discuss any concerns you may have.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have CCTV? Can I view it remotely?

The perimeter fence of our nurseries are fitted with CCTV. The CCTV is managed by the school (which owns the site) so any requests to view CCTV must be made to the school.

How do you keep the children safe on trips?

All children wear hi-vis jackets when on trips and we always ensure we have a ratio of 1:3 so we ask parents to join us if they can. A risk assessment is completed by the nursery manager, signed off by the headteacher and shared with all staff before the trip. A trained first aider will always accompany an offsite trip.

What should I do if I have a concern?

If you have any concerns about the nursery or a member of staff, follow the complaints policy.
